Friday June 6, 2014 – RACHELLE FERRELL – Doors will open at 6:30pm (Instead of 7:00pm)
A rare artist who must be experienced in concert, Exodus To Jazz proudly presents the superbly talented Rachelle Ferrell for your discovery or reconnection. Ferrell is unquestionably one of the most dynamic talents on today’s music scene; few vocal artists have Ferrell’s potent combination of range, phrasing, and musicianship. Her short discography as a leader belies the fact that she has amassed a strong following across several music genres; she sells out large auditoriums throughout the U.S. and in foreign countries.
Ferrell attended the Berklee School of Music where she honed her already strong musical foundations and cultivated her songwriting and arranging abilities. While teaching music in New Jersey, Ferrell met jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie who declared that “Rachelle is gonna be a major force in the industry.” Buoyed by a six octave vocal range and an impassioned commitment, Ferrell shatters category limitations to extract the essence of every song. Her renditions of Rogers and Hart’s “My Funny Valentine” and Sam Cooke’s “You Send Me” exemplify this ability; they are now instantly recognized signature Ferrell tunes.
In her Blue Note biography, Ferrell pointed to her long experience as a performer for her interpretive abilities: “…When one performs four sets a night, six nights a week, that experience affords you the opportunity to present the song from the inside out, to express its essence…I live comfortably in the worlds of pop, R&B, jazz, gospel, and even classical music…Ultimately I would like to be accepted on the basis of the full scope of my music rather than the narrowness of music and marketing.”
Join fellow music lovers in expressing our appreciation for Rachelle Ferrell’s full contributions to the music scene.
